How to Install Your Electric Radiator Yourself?

Comment installer son radiateur électrique soi-même ?

Installing an electric radiator may seem complex, but with the right steps and precautions, it becomes simple and accessible to everyone. This practical guide helps you ensure a safe, effective, and room-appropriate installation.

Why follow the installation rules for an electric radiator?

The importance of compliant and secure installation

Incorrect installation can compromise safety, reduce the lifespan of your radiator, and affect its thermal efficiency. It is therefore crucial to respect the safety distances and electrical instructions defined by electrical standard NF C 15-100.

Distances to respect for optimal heat distribution

To ensure the safety and proper functioning of your electric radiator, it is essential to choose an appropriate location:

  • Position the radiator at least 25 cm from the floor to optimize the sensor’s operation
  • Leave 30 cm above for good heat circulation
  • Do not install the device in a draft that could disrupt its regulation
  • Do not place the device near obstacles that limit air circulation around it

Installing an electric radiator in a bathroom

All Bestherm radiators are suitable for bathrooms thanks to their Class II (double insulation) and IP24 protection rating, ensuring optimal resistance to water splashes.

If the radiator is installed in a bathroom, maintain a minimum distance of 60 cm from the water point, in accordance with electrical standard NF C 15-100.

How to fix an electric radiator to the wall?

Once the location is defined, all that remains is to fix the electric radiator to the wall before proceeding with the electrical connection.

  • Prepare the wall mount: loosen the screws and remove the support by pulling it down.
  • Attach the support: check that it is perfectly horizontal with a level, mark the 4 holes, drill, insert the anchors, and firmly screw the support to the wall.
  • Install the radiator: place it on the support hooks and pull it down.
  • Lock the installation: push the metal plates into the holes and tighten the screws to secure the radiator.

Electrical connection rules to follow

An electric heater must never be plugged into a standard wall outlet. It must be connected directly to a secure cable outlet, in accordance with the NF C 15-100 electrical standard.

Steps for electrical connection

Before connecting, it is essential to follow these instructions:

  • Turn off the power at the main circuit breaker
  • Use a 3-wire cable with the following color codes:
    • Blue or light gray: Neutral
    • Brown or red: Phase
    • Black: Pilot wire (optional, for programming)
  • Connect in a wall box, never on an electrical outlet
  • Protect the circuit with a 30 mA differential circuit breaker
  • Never connect the pilot wire to the ground, and insulate it if not used

FAQ: Installing an electric heater

Can you install an electric heater yourself?

Yes, installing an electric heater is accessible to DIY enthusiasts with some basic knowledge of electricity.

However, it is essential to follow safety instructions and the requirements of the NF C 15-100 standard. In case of doubt, the intervention of a qualified electrician remains the safest solution.

At what height should an electric heater be installed?

It is recommended to install an electric heater at least 25 cm from the floor to ensure the proper functioning of the temperature sensor and optimal heat distribution.

It is also advisable to leave free space above the device to promote air circulation and maintain its performance.

How to connect an electric heater with a pilot wire?

The pilot wire allows the heater to be connected to a programming system or an energy manager.

It must be connected to the pilot wire of the installation when in use. Otherwise, it must be carefully insulated and never connected to the ground.
